One of the major high points of our Business Communications series is this: “Communication is the life-wire of any business.” We looked at the various types of communication patterns and processes in the business environment; how could we really do business without the art of communication? Permit me to say that business thrives on communication.

In the wake of the global pandemic, it is no news that many locations and organisations are still been required to observe a total or partial lock down, after over three months of disruption in regular activities in business and lifestyle. And across the world, many organisations have welcomed a new normal for surviving during the lock down.

The new normal for rendering services and associating with staff and/or clients is gradually taking the centre stage and business space as some organisations are ready to totally change to / adopt this new model of business operation; especially in view of communication and managing space.

Yes, there are new communication patterns and processes for many organisations, through social media and online video-conferencing medium. Its is important to note that having business meetings online is not new. In fact, the use of skype, whatsapp video and similar video messaging platforms have solved many real-time communication challenges before the covid-19 era. But today, the buzz word for organisational conferences, meetings and chats, is ZOOM.

Zoom seems to be the next best thing since sliced bread. “Zoom is a modern enterprise video communications with an easy and reliable platform for video and audio conferencing, chats, and webinars…” It has recorded exponential downloads of its app for both computer and mobile devices since the beginning of the lock down. The platform has proved to be more reliable in the support of businesses, educational institutions and government agencies. The Zoom platform has specific features that makes it more effective for meetings, conferences and webinars.

After a long period of disruption in business activities and operations, businesses need to bounce back and remain relevant in their business space. Many businesses who never really optimized their online channels have a new normal for relating with clients, customers and staff of the organisation. The goal now is not just bouncing back but to zoom on into the future.

Although some businesses never really shut down or slowed down as they took advantage of online channels, tele-conferencing and online meeting platforms to remain functional and active. Many of them took advantage of the ZOOM platform to remain relevant and beat the competition.
