What are interviews?

Interviews are structured and managed conversations where one or more persons ask questions and another person(s) responds to the questions.

Here the direction of questions is structured to be one way. The tool for a proper interview is Effective Communication.

Many people think that Interviews are usually granted only in formal settings. This is because what easily comes to mind is the interview process conducted before getting a job – a job interview.

However, it is important to note that interviews are often conducted in informal settings too; what should be noted is the whether the seriousness of the issue is undermined or not.

Can we really do away with interviews?

It would surprise you to know that everyone engages in some form of interview or the other. I could list several scenarios:

  • Do you remember having to answer questions before a person or persons when gaining admission into primary, secondary or tertiary institution?
  • Or imagine your first important discussion with your would be father-in-law… it usually sound like an interview.
  • Now and again we get street interviews for opinion poll.
  • Or what do we call that very important discussion where bosses assess subordinates to know if they improving on their jobs or if they are qualified to climb the ladder.
  • And as the Leader or representative of a group or organisation, you are interviewed by company directors, angel investors, the bank or even the press, to mention a few.
  • Celebrities too are often trained by their publicist or public relations consultant on how to respond to questions granted during a TV or Radio broadcast. Interviews for magazines are not left out as well.
  • Even Presidents, Prime Ministers and respective leaders of countries, regional blocks or multinational organisations are expected to grant several and countless interviews in a year.

The point is simple, we at some point may need to grant an interview for the sake of gathering information, business assessment, or representing an organisation. For anyone who desires to reach the top of his career or industry, it is important to concern oneself with the intrigues of interview process.
